Skin care
is a multi-billion dollar industry. In fact, there are so many skin care products on the market today, it can sometimes be confusing which to choose for your own personal needs. Skin care products exist for every age group, from teenagers to post-menopausal women, and of course, skin care isn’t reserved just for women - men need good skin care, also. .A basic skin care routine includes some type of cleanser, usually followed by a toner (for the face) and moisturizer. Different types of cleansers have been developed for people with different skin types. For instance, active cleansers are more suitable for oily skins to prevent breakouts, but they may irritate dry skin. Very dry skin may require a creamy lotion-type cleanser. A toner is a product designed to remove any traces of cleanser left on the face after rinsing and also to shrink pores. Moisturizer is applied to the face after toner has dried. Moisturizers are complex mixtures of chemical agents designed specifically to make the external layers of the skin softer by increasing hydration and reducing evaporation. Moisturizers prevent and treat dry skin, protect sensitive skin, improve skin tone and texture, and mask imperfections, not just for the face, but the entire body. Another important part of skin care involves the use of sunscreen, which protects against two forms of skin cancer; squamous cell carcinoma and basal cell carcinoma.
Acne is a skin condition that requires a special type of skin care. Acne is characterized by whiteheads, blackheads, and inflamed pimples that can cause scarring of the skin. It occurs most commonly during adolescence, and often continues into adulthood. Other conditions that irritate, clog or inflame your skin can cause symptoms such as redness, swelling, burning and itching. Allergies, irritants, your genetic makeup and certain diseases and immune system problems can cause skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis and hives.
Aging of the skin is a natural process, in which your genes play a big part. After genetics, the environment has a huge effect on your skin, including over-exposure to the sun, the air you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat, and the way you care for your skin. Generally, your skin is a direct reflection of your overall health. Fortunately, today, more than any time in history, there are skin care treatments and acne treatments that are state-of-the-art. From anti-wrinkle lotions and anti-sagging serums to at-home peels, the products today are incredible. They can help improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles, fade brown spots and improve texture. Advancements in the skin care industry continue to sky rocket each year.
